  • H.E. Amre Moussa

    H.E. is currently the heads the Congress party of Egypt, and is one of the founding members of the NSF (National Salvation Front), that H.E. Moussa called for to be established after the Constitutional decree by the President and led the popular move that caused it to be retracted later on.

    A staunch defender of Arab democratic change and renowned politician, H.E. Moussa was the Permanent Representative of Egypt to the U.N, the Foreign Minister of Egypt and the sixth Secretary General of the League of Arab States.

    H.E. held this position from 2001 till 2011. H.E. ran for president of Egypt in the first democratic elections following the Arab Revolution for change as an independent candidate with a vision to reform Egypt's ailing bureaucratic and economic infrastructure.

    In 2003, he was selected as a member of the High level Commission to review the U.N reform and the new developments in international situations.

    Serving Egypt where he was elected as a member of the constitutional assembly, he led the civil members in their negotiations aiming to produce a more liberal constitution for modern Egypt.

  • H.E. Dr. Jihad Azour

    H.E. Dr. Jihad Azour is the Former Minister of Finance, Lebanon.

    He was recently appointed by the Board of the World Bank, member of the Independent Panel of Experts to review a broad range of issues around the Doing Business and Global Competitiveness.

    He occupied senior positions in government, UNDP, and in leading private sector companies (including McKinsey and Company, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Compagnie de Saint-Gobain). He also consulted for the IMF, the World Bank and the EU.

    H.E. Dr. Jihad Azour obtained his PhD in International Finance from Harvard University and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris, France.

    معالي د. جهاد أزعور هو وزير المالية اللبناني الأسبق.

    تم تعيينه مؤخرا من قبل مجلس إدارة البنك الدولي عضو لجنة خبراء مستقلة لمراجعة مجموعة واسعة من القضايا حول أنشطة ممارسة الأعمال والتنافسية العالمية.

    شغل معاليه مناصب رفيعة في الحكومة، برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي، والشركات الرائدة في القطاع الخاص (بما في ذلك شركة ماكينزي وشركاه، شركة بوز ألن هاملتون، و كومباني دي سان جوبان).كما قدم استشارات لصندوق النقد الدولي والبنك الدولي والاتحاد الأوروبي.

    حاصل على درجة الدكتوراه في التمويل الدولي من جامعة هارفارد ومعهد الدراسات السياسية في باريس، فرنسا.

  • Dr. Francois Bassil

    Dr. Francois Bassil is currently the President of the Association of Banks in Lebanon and the Chairman-General Manager of Byblos Bank S.A.L., one of the leading Lebanese banks.

    Dr. Bassil’s achievements include the promotion of Byblos Bank name outside of Lebanon, namely in Europe where the bank has been maintaining a presence for the last 30 years and then in Sudan and Syria where operations started in August 2004 and December 2005 respectively. More recently, the bank has developed a presence in Iraq and Armenia in 2007, and in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2010. The Bank has also had a representative office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, since 2005, as well as a representative office in Lagos, Nigeria, since 2009.

    Dr. Bassil lead the success and growth of the bank in Lebanon where, since he assumed the CEO position in 1979, the bank grew from a mid-sized locally based entity to a regional force, with a capital base of USD 1,939 million and total assets of USD 18,486 million as at 31st December 2013. Today, Byblos Bank S.A.L. is listed on the Beirut Stock Market and has the largest number of shareholders compared to other Lebanese banks.

    Throughout his professional career, Dr. François Bassil received many honorary distinctions, among them the “Ordre de la Couronne Belge” accorded by H.M. King Albert II, King of Belgium; and Chevalier de l’Ordre de St. Grégoire Le Grand, accorded by "Le Saint Père Jean-Paul II"; and the Lebanese President Michel Sleiman decorates Dr. Bassil as Commander in “National Order of the Cedars”.

    In 2008 Dr. Bassil has been awarded a “Doctorate Honoris Causa” by the Lebanese American University (LAU) and in 2010 the Universite Saint-Esprit Kaslik (USEK) awarded him a “Doctorate Honoris Causa” in Business. In May 2012, he was honored by the “Arab Economic Forum” held in Beirut the award of “Leadership in Achievement”.

    He holds a Doctoral Degree in Law from the Catholic University of Louvain, in Belgium.

  • H.E. Dr Abdullah Al Dardari

    H.E. Mr. Abdallah Al Dardari has a wealth of information and expertise on poverty reduction strategies, governance and macroeconomics. He is currently Chief Economist since 29 August 2012, in addition to his title as Director of the Economic Development and Globalization Division (EDGD) at ESCWA since 7 September 2011.

    Mr. Al Dardari was Deputy Prime Minister for Economic affairs from 2005-2011 and Minister of Planning in Syrian Arab Republic (Chairman of the State Planning Commission- 2003 -2005) and UNDP's Assistant Resident Representative in Syria (2001-2003).

    H.E. Mr. Al Dardari has also extensive experience in the areas of competitiveness, investments and international trade negotiations.

    H.E. Mr. Al Dardari holds an Honorary Doctorate from Yalova University in Istanbul, a Masters in International Political Economy from University of Southern California, BA Economics from Richmond University London, and Post Graduate Research at the London School of Economics.

  • Hamad Abdulmohsen Al Marzouq

    Mr. Hamad Al Marzouq is currently the President of Kuwait Banking Association. He is the Board Director of Institute of Banking Studies and Board Director of Public Authority for Applied Education & Training.

    He was Chairman and Managing Director of ahli united bank K.S.C. and was Ahli United Bank Group Deputy Chairman of Ahli United Bank (Bahrain - UK – Egypt), Ahli Bank (Oman, Qatar), United Bank for Commerce & Investment – Libya & Commercial Bank of Iraq.

    He was previously the Member of the Board of Trustees at Arab Academy for Financial & Banking Services (AAFBS), Board Director of Union of Arab Banks (UAB), Deputy Chairman of Kuwait & Middle East Financial Investment Company, Deputy Chairman of Middle East Financial Investment Company (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Manager Supervision Sector at Central Bank of Kuwait.

    He holds a degree in Bachelor of Science in Industrial & System Engineering from the University of Southern California )USA( and MBA degree in Finance & International Business from Claremont Graduate School )USA(.



The state of political uncertainty and current economic challenges prevailing in the Arab world necessitate an in depth discussion of the existing and upcoming challenges & prospects and a particular focus on the cross economic relations between the various Arab countries to be addressed by policy makers, leading business, finance and investment figures.

Debating these critical issues and concerns will constitute the Third Lebanon Economic Forum’s key topics of discussion.

The forum is to take place on the 8th of March 2014 at the Four Seasons Hotel, Beirut-Lebanon, under the high patronage of H.E. The President of the Republic of Lebanon, General Michel Suleiman, and will witness an extensive participation of ministers of key sectors, government officials, business and investment leaders, and experts from Lebanon, Arab and neighboring countries.
